Thurston County entered Phase 2 of the Governor’s Safe-Start program on May 27th. Phase 2 allows partial reopening of some businesses previously deemed non-essential. We are so excited that we are approaching the time when we can see all of our students and families again! We miss all of you so much, and even though we’ve loved how our streaming classes have kept so many of you in touch and up and moving, we know they aren’t the same.
For anyone who is unaware, Miss Lexi is a licensed cosmetologist and we have a small hair salon in the studio. She specializes in hair and eyelash extensions, coloring, balyage highlights and Brazilian Blowout treatments. Phase two allows Miss Lexi to resume cosmetology services, and we know that some of us need some hair love to fix our at-home hair trims and adventures in coloring. We applaud everyone’s can-do attitude over the last few months, but we all know that even the most skilled and experienced hair professionals aren’t so great at self-service. We promise not to judge. If you’d like Miss Lexi to help you prepare for a reentry into the world, give us a call or email us so she can learn what you’d like done and schedule an appointment.
Shortly before Thurston County qualified to begin Phase 2, the Governor updated the Safe-Start program to allow the partial reopening of “fitness and training” businesses, and Kinetic Dance Academy fits the definition of these types of business. We started Kinetic Dance Academy with the belief that physical activity is very beneficial for our health, and that exercise opportunities which combine social interaction and positive peer-pressure amplify the benefits. We are glad that the Governor has come to realize the same thing. Unfortunately, the requirements for Phase 2 make in-studio classes highly impractical. All of our students know that Miss Lexi and Miss Jul work their students hard, and we don’t want anyone passing out from working hard while wearing a mask. Even though we are chomping at the bit to see all of our students in person, we believe that we can better serve our students by continuing the online streaming classes during Phase 2.
We are actively planning our Summer Intensive Program, which is common in the dance world, and has even more significance this year. As schools get out for the summer, studios have the opportunity to step-up the physical training, focus on those trouble techniques and begin preparation for recitals, performances and competitions. This year, many of us have spent more time binging our favorite shows, sitting on the couch and napping than we’d like to admit. Miss Lexi and Miss Jul are preparing programs that can help all of us recover from the effects of being home-bound and boost our confidence as we reemerge from the cocoon of social isolation.
We have fought our desire to keep in touch with our students and families during this time to be sure that we aren’t perceived to be spamming anyone. We will be sending out detailed information on our plans for Phase 3 and our Summer Intensive Program as soon as the information is complete.
We are required to have any students or Hairy Potter Girl Salon clients sign our Washington State Safe-Start Phase 2 and 3 waiver and consent form. We prefer that our customers print and sign the document available here before entering the salon/studio but will have pre-printed copies available in the studio/salon.
